letter for the west coast

The fifth of December, 2008

Dear West Coast,

I miss how it's warmer where you are. I miss being a better version of myself.

At times I wonder how you work, how you appear brighter than the other shorelines.

This is my list:

-stationary -new craft supplies

-phoning my mom -making things with my hands

-getting mail -cooking for loved ones

-dancing -buying groceries

-swimming in the ocean -the light in autumn

-the perfect song -running til I can't

-really bright days -being in my mom's house at the same time as both my brothers

-holding a baby
-hugs -understanding other languages

-sleeping in -the way it feels to write, when it's hard to get it right

-those who listen

Do you ever stare into a painting and it's so beautiful it makes you terribly sad? That's how I feel when I write something worthwhile.

I'll see you soon cowboy,
love from your lamb
